The D1 was Nikon’s first professional digital SLR, arriving in 1999 with a 2.7-megapixel DX-format sensor built into an F5-derived body. It brought fast, affordable digital capture to photojournalists who had previously relied on far more expensive systems. The D1 uses the native Nikon F mount and can meter with AI and AI-S manual lenses as well as autofocus with AF and AF-S optics.
