Nikon Z cameras cannot mount F-mount lenses directly, but Nikon’s Mount Adapter FTZ and the newer FTZ II let NIKKOR F lenses be used on Z-series cameras. Nikon describes the FTZ II as a more compact and lightweight design. Whether autofocus works depends on the lens, so the table below separates lenses with a built-in focus motor from those without. Check Nikon’s compatibility tables for your exact lens and camera before buying. The camera and lens lists, flange distances and adapter details on this page come from our own database.

Things to check before you buy

  • Flange distance: Nikon F 46.5 mm, Nikon Z 16 mm. The adapter bridges the 30.5 mm difference.
  • 264 of 1,800 lens–camera pairs in this combination carry a possible-vignetting warning because the lens is designed for a smaller sensor (APS-C lenses on Full Frame cameras: 264 pairs).
