The D40 was a compact, lightweight entry-level DSLR built around a 6.1-megapixel sensor, notable as Nikon’s first DSLR without an in-body focus motor. As a result, autofocus only works with AF-S and AF-I lenses that carry their own motor, while older screw-drive AF lenses mount but focus manually. It uses the native Nikon F mount.
